In an attempt to move away from using the landscape as his subject in the manner of the ‘Sublime’ artists of the past, Gavin has explored new avenues to represent the physical space which we occupy in a more contemporary manner. In “Plasticity” we see a worldview within the artist’s studio – or space which we are viewing a subject – an objective view of the notion of Landscape, a painting of painting, if you will.

Paint is used here to represent a similar 'plastic' material, plasticine. Plasticity itself represents man's desire to control nature.

This has led to the 'Plasticity Trilogy' - a series of Darth Vader toy paintings in a Sublime setting.
